There are almost 7 sounds for this letter but Indians are very familiar with the sound like cat, orange, arm, and about 
But there is no specific rule to ascertain the exact articulation of letter A. The exact way to master the articulation of A is to check the word in dictionary and master its sound. At times A is articulated aa or o and for the same  word for example walk can be pronounced waak or wok in such cases own accent will matter the most
